Multimedia Communications Lab (MCLab)

The Multimedia Communications laboratory (MCLab site) has been established in 1998. It is located at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE) of the University of Cagliari and is affiliated with the CNIT, the Italian University Consortium for Telecommunications. The Research Group of MCLab is made of around 12 people, including faculty members, research fellows and Ph.D. students.
MCLab is active in basic and applied research as well as development, in several industrial fields. These activities are mainly funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, the Sardinian Regional Government, the Italian Research Council, the EC and by private companies (such as: Ericsson, IBM, STMicroelectronics, Tiscali).
The competence of the team (MCLab site) is focused on both multimedia processing and networking with particular attention to multimedia communications over noisy channels, multimedia content editing, still-picture and video coding, QoS and traffic management, architectures in next generation networks, cognitive radio. The mission is to carry out international research and innovation for the next generation multiservice networks and to conduct technological transfer to the regional and national territory.
